The OSCE Mission to Serbia organized a visit of representatives from the Serbian Government and other relevant institutions to discuss State-language education in Serbia with the OSCE High Commissioner on National Minorities (HCNM) Astrid Thors on 11 and 12 March 2015 in The Hague.

The visit is the outcome of the strong and long-standing co-operation between the Mission, the Serbian Government and the HCNM on issues related to education and the implementation of aspects of The Ljubljana Guidelines on Integration of Society.

This meeting brought together several streams working on education and integration issues, and will contribute to closer working relationships in the future, especially with regard to incorporating State-language learning into Serbia’s integration strategy.

Thors reminded the participants that the integration of society can be promoted through improving access to education in both the mother tongue and the State language.
