VIENNA, 21 August 1998 - The OSCE High Commissioner for National Minorities, Mr. Max van der Stoel, notes with great satisfaction the recent agreement between Ukraine and Uzbekistan on simplifying the process for renouncing Uzbek citizenship by the formerly deported people of Crimea, including the abolition of the fee formerly charged for executing the procedure.
This act represents another important step in promoting the process of reintegration of the formerly deported people and is an excellent example of the co-operation between the two Governments, UNHCR, IOM and OSCE.
